TestPrep AI Tutor talks you through the questions you got wrong

When your TOEFL practice test ends, pick a mistake on your results page and the lesson starts. The tutor won't just read out the answer: it asks you, writes the steps on the board and lets you find where you went wrong.

On the TOEFL it works through Reading and Listening questions. Your Write an Email / Academic Discussion text is coached against the TOEFL scoring rubric.

Your first 2 mistakes are free (up to 10 minutes)

No card needed to try it, just your account.

One lesson, start to finish

A mistake is picked on the results page, the tutor asks, the answer comes back, the next step goes up on the board and the question is closed. The video is silent; the conversation is in the captions.

  1. Finish a practice test

Your results page lists every question you got wrong or left blank.

  2. Open the AI Tutor

Go in from the AI Tutor card on your results page, then pick the lesson language, how it runs and the tutor's voice.

  3. Talk it through

The tutor asks, you answer; the steps go up on the board and hints come when you're stuck.

  4. Move on

Press “Finish this question” once you've got it. Your first 2 mistakes are free; after that you carry on in 30-minute blocks.

A shared board

No typing: you talk it through. Interrupt whenever you like, ask a question, or say “got it” and move on to the next one.

The tutor writes up and highlights the evidence from the text; you can write on the board too, and it reads what you wrote.

You choose how it runs

“Step by step, together”: the tutor asks, you solve. “Let the tutor explain”: it talks you through the solution and you stop it wherever you get stuck.

Start the lesson in any of 20 languages; after that it follows whichever language you speak. The question itself stays in English, as it is on test day.

On the SAT and ACT, the exam's own Desmos

The same calculator you use in the SAT practice test is on screen. The tutor sees what you type, so it can tell a right method with a mistyped expression from a wrong method.

Writing, coached against the rubric

You go through your Write an Email / Academic Discussion text against the TOEFL scoring rubric: it shows where the score comes from using your own sentences, and you make the fixes. It never writes the text for you.

It won't lead with the answer, or withhold it

It asks you first and gives hints one step at a time when you're stuck. Ask for the answer and you get it; the “Show the answer” button is always there too. The help comes as a ladder: it starts at the bottom and moves up one rung at a time, never skipping one.

  1. Watches

If you are working, it stays out of the way.

  2. Try again

“Have another look at the choices.”

  3. Points the way

    “Read the second sentence again.”

  4. Socratic question

“Are we solving for x here, or for 2x?”

  5. Targeted hint

“There's a sign slip: what happens when you move the minus across?”

  6. Shows one step

Writes only that step on the board; the rest is yours.

  7. Full solution

Once the guided attempts are genuinely spent, or as soon as you ask for it.

Every question leaves a short record

When a question closes, the tutor files it: which kind of mistake, how far up the ladder it had to go, how many hints it took, and whether you got there in the end. No audio is kept. A written transcript of the lesson and a short note per question (the type of mistake and how many hints it took) are kept with your account, and deleted when your account is deleted.

Each question's mistake type is collected in your panel, exam by exam: how many questions each type came up on, and which ones, each linked to its test's results.

What it doesn't do

  • It doesn't predict your score or promise a higher one.
  • It works on the practice tests you finish, not on question-bank or homework questions.
  • It doesn't review IELTS or TOEFL Speaking, doesn't re-score PTE pronunciation, and never writes your text or homework for you.
  • It doesn't replace a human teacher; our one-to-one tutoring is a separate service.

Questions people ask

Which exams does the AI Tutor work on?
SAT, GMAT, GRE, PTE, IELTS, TOEFL and ACT practice tests, including the free diagnostic tests. When the test ends, the lesson starts from a question you got wrong or left blank on your results page. On the TOEFL it works through Reading and Listening questions. Your Write an Email / Academic Discussion text is coached against the TOEFL scoring rubric.
How much is free?
Your first 2 wrong questions are free, once per account, for up to 10 minutes. There is no card to enter to try it; you just need to be signed in.
How is it charged after that?
You buy time in 30-minute blocks, up to 8 blocks (4 hours) in one purchase. The price is shown in the site's currency. Unused minutes stay on your account and carry over to your next practice tests.
Will it just tell me the answer?
Yes, if you ask. It starts by asking you and giving hints, but say “just tell me” and it does. The “Show the answer” button is on screen for every question, except Writing tasks, which have no single right answer.
What language does it teach in?
It opens in the language you pick (any of 20) and then follows whichever language you speak. The question stays in English, as it is on test day.
Do I need a microphone?
The lesson runs on voice, so your browser will ask for the microphone; headphones and a quiet room help. You can mute whenever you like and carry on by writing on the board.
Are lessons recorded?
No audio is kept. A written transcript of the lesson and a short note per question (the type of mistake and how many hints it took) are kept with your account, and deleted when your account is deleted.
